TwitStamp 3.0

As you may have heard, we’re working on the third major revision of TwitStamp. Internally known as TwitStamp 3.0, it is a total revamp of the site. It also adds a slew of new features, both on the frontend and the backend, including the much-awaited custom TwitStamp generation. We’ve even included some mysterious blurry screenshots for you to ponder over.

You can see the newly designed frontend, designed to neatly organize more information regarding the updated features on the site. The custom TwitStamp generator is hidden in the Account section.

To create custom TwitStamps, you will need to create and verify your account. This only takes a few minutes, and allows us to better serve users and track TwitStamps. When you join, you’ll be allowed to create a limited number of TwitStamps. This to keep the service available to everyone on our limited hardware.

Using the editor you can create and edit custom TwitStamps with a simple drag-and-drop interface. After that, you will be provided with a convenient URL much like the current service which will allow you to post your TwitStamp anywhere. Also in the works is a developer’s API so 3rd party developers can access our powerful generation scripts to create custom TwitStamps for users.

Finally, we also make it easy to edit settings for your created TwitStamps and user profile; or if you choose you can easily delete either with a few clicks. That’s all for now, remember to check back soon for more details and the release!

I’ve decided to expose the source to the code we use to auto-follow and auto-unfollow users on Twitter. It uses the SimpleXML library to parse XML, so make sure you have PHP5. The code linked above is the bit we use for this purpose, which I extracted into a standalone file for your use.

Remember to set your username and password at the top of the file, and also remember each action uses one of your allotted API calls.

Internet Explorer and TwitStamp

They’re not exactly best friends! There are some minor CSS issues that became present when we rolled the code over to a new server several months ago. While we could tweak the CSS for hours until the positioning is corrected, we opted to let it go until the launch of the next version (which is fully cross-browser compatible, by the way.)

You may have noticed the winter brought a lot of changes and downtime for us as we struggled to meet the rapidly increasing demand for TwitStamps. In the process of stabilizing the hosting situation, files were copied and moved between servers, and sometimes the CSS version didn’t match the XHTML version. We also had to make many on-the-fly changes to the existing website to accomidate new themes and new demands.

The next version of TwitStamp, however, was redesigned from the ground up to be more user-friendly, cross-browser compatible, and most importantly accomidate all the content we need.

So, for you IE users out there, we apologize for the layout issues on the site. You should still be able to use TwitStamp, although it may be a bit quirky until we launch the next version. Thanks!
